Teaching homophones in first grade, and taking into account these phonetic aspects is valuable when students are learning a foreign language like English. Nonetheless, we have just designed this activity to let children have the first contact with this crucial world. For that reason, this activity is going to open the doors towards a new conception of the language where they will learn something that is uncommon for them. In this activity they are going to realize that in English the graphemes do not always follow the same sounds as we tend to do in Spanish. Then, homophones require careful listening, which will strengthen phonemic awareness, helping young learners recognize that different meanings may share the same sound, while they are preparing themselves to get into this path.
